Benedek & Ticehurst - Landscsape Architects and Site Planners
HISTORY

Benedek & Ticehurst is one of the few firms nationwide that specialize in fine residential landscape architecture. With creativity, integrity, and over forty years of experience, the firm brings careful planning to the landscape in order to create an environment that is both natural and new.

The firm was established in 1960 by Armand Benedek (1931 - 2004), who built his reputation under the tutelage of A. E. Bye, one of America's most respected landscape architects. Prominently, Benedek collaborated with David Engel, landscape architect, on the design of the Japanese Gardens at the Rockefeller Potantico Hills estate, Kykuit.

Glenn Ticehurst, Partner, RLA, ASLA, joined the firm in 1982 and became Partner in 1990.

With many years of collective experience, the firm has designed projects throughout the United States and the Caribbean, on a scale ranging from modest urban gardens to 500 acre estates. Working with their clients and with the landscape, projects can range from classical, formal, European-style gardens to natural, biomorphic landscape environments and equestrian properties. Many Benedek & Ticehurst projects involve the use of water, including a focus on swimming pools. These pools may relate to the architecture of the residence or to the natural and/or man-made features of the site, but, as with all architectural elements, the goal is to blend seamlessly with their surroundings.

The firm has won prestigious awards from the American Institute of Architects and the National Swimming Pool Institute. Armand Benedek was inducted as a Fellow into the American Society of Landscape Architecture in 1991, the Society's highest honor. In addition, well-received projects have been profiled in virtually every important consumer magazine, including a monograph in Architectural Digest.
